How to pack your kayak
  • LOCATION: Westernport Bay is located approximately 1 to 2 hours drive from Melbourne
  • DESCRIPTION: This tour is for people who have done little or no overnight sea kayak camping. The paddle distances are short and the location is ideally suited for a weekend tour as it is only approximately 1-1.5 hours drive from Melbourne. This tour is a great "warm up" for Corner Inlet Wilsons Promontory 3-5 day tour.

French Island has one of Victoria's largest koala colonies and is home to many other animals and birds. Dolphins and seals may also be seen as you paddle along. French Island is one of the more remote areas in Victoria with only 80 people living on an island about twice the size of Phillip Island. There are two choices of camp sites. Fairhaven (west side of French Island) - opposite Hastings which is a remote bush campsite. The alternative is the Eco farm (former prison) on the south side of French Island, opposite Corinella. This camp can be either tent or hut style accommodation. There are opportunities to explore the hinterland at either location. Also take in the views of Phillip Island, Crib Point and Corinella.
