Spot Water Dragons basking in the sun, listen to the bird life and on occasion spot a platypus or Salvador the resident seal. Your journey begins at Hawthorn Rowing club where the team will take you through an essential safety briefing before you set off down the river. Whether you are visiting from overseas, interstate or are local, this experience has something for everyone. Pack a picnic lunch and stop at Herring island environmental sculpture park or stop by Kanteen for a coffee before continuing your journey to Boathouse drive.

Meeting location

This is a one way journey down the Yarra River to Boathouse Dr. We suggest taking public transport as parking at the start location is limited.

Self-guided kayak hire (no guide) should not be your first kayaking experience. If you have never kayaked before we recommend undertaking some instruction or a guided tour. You should also be able to swim. No drugs or alcohol before or during the activity.


Duration:
2-4 hours depending on your speed and stops along the way, including safety briefing.

We ask that all paddlers arrive at their booked session 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. This allows for the check in process and will assist a prompt start and ensure you maximise your play time on the water.


What to bring

What to wear (outdoor clothing is best)

  • Old runners (you will be stepping in to water)

  • Quick dry shorts

  • A light fleece top

  • A light rain jacket

  • Hat

You may wish to consider, at your own risk, taking your phone with you for photos or in the event you need to make contact whilst on the water. It is recommended that you utilise a waterproof phone case or similar product in this instance. Remember nothing is ever guaranteed to be 100% waterproof but some things are better than others (Ziplock bags are not adequate).
